Melamchi (Sindhupalchok), July 31: Youths here are agitating to close the crusher industries operated at the Indrawati River banks.
Youth charged the industries for polluting the environment and continuously eroding the river banks and damaging the Helambu highway. The crusher industries are found quarrying sand, stones and aggregates illegally by using scavators right from mid river.
In a bid to regulate rampant quarrying carried out by the crusher industries in the river bank, the District Development Committee (DDC) Kavre has already decided not to renew the crusher industries run in the district. However, the Sindhupalchowk DDC is yet to take a similar decision.
The crusher industries have been damaging the road section, irrigation canals and the habitat of aquatic animals in the area, said a local Kishor Biddyadhar.
It is noted that over, 80 trippers daily transport sand and stones from the Indrawati River sides to the Kathmandu valley.
