Bhaktapur, July 31: The National Art Museum at the Bhaktapur Durbar Square has been a centre of attraction for domestic tourists in particular.
Museum chief Aruna Nakarmi informed that although it is generally thought that foreign tourists are visiting the museum in more numbers it was not the case. There are more Nepali tourists visiting it than foreign tourists.
In fiscal year 2013/14, a total of 50,034 tourists visited the museum out of which 40,723 were Nepali tourists, according to Nakarmi.
In this single year 25,349 Nepali students and 15,374 Nepali tourists visited the museum. Among the foreign tourists visiting the museum 1,920 were from SAARC countries and 7,391 from other countries.
An employee, Man Bahadur Shakya, informed that the art museum collected a total of around Rs. 1.79 million in revenue from the visitors. Out of the total revenue, Rs. 1.65 million came from entry fees and Rs. 140,441 from fees charged on camera and sale of books.
