Jumla, July 30: The District Agriculture Development Office Jumla has started internal inspection for organic certification of apples. The inspection began in all the seven VDCs certified for organic apple.
Inspection will be done in Garjyangkot, Depalgaun, Patmara, Chandannath, Mahat, Kartikswami, and Tatopani VDCs, said Senior Agriculture Development Officer Tej Narayan Gaire. The office said regular monitoring should be done each year in VDCs with organic certification.
During monitoring, whether or not pesticide is used in apple is inspected, said Crop Protection Officer Chandra Bahadur Budha. It is also inspected as to how many trees are there and how much is the production and productivity. There are three phases of organic certification of apple, and then the team of the Fruit Development Directorate does the external monitoring.
Then the organic certification is given when the apples reach Kathmandu and tested in lab, he said. He said trained manpower was mobilized for internal inspection.
The District Agriculture Development Office Jumla has also urged the farmers to help make Jumla an organic district.
The 14 Th District Council meeting in 2064 BS had declared Jumla as organic district, but farmers were using butachlor secretly, which has its effect until 90 days.
